December 7, 2015

Good afternoon my fellow burdened human beings!

As we begin an eventful week, I would like to wish all of our bills the best of luck when being presented, lobbied for, and ambushed with identified loopholes...I hope we all learn a thing or two about politics and one day inherit the seats of Congress as progressive people wanting change (what politicians should be and should do a bit more often).

As a glimmer of hope, HOPE club shall be selling waffles this Thursday at lunch and this week is the second one till the start of break...odds are you will survive:

HOMEWORK (first rotation)
  • Ortega: do a Goodreads assignment if you wish to recieve an AE for your SSR grades this month (treat it as necessary extra credit); for next rotation, complete exercises one and two (pages 1-18) and three from exercise one on page 29 (pages 19-29) in "They Say, I Say" and make sure you are read up to page 29
    • There shall be a quick notebook check next Tuesday for you long term planners
Pages 1-15 (intro)

Pages 19-29 (chapter 1)

  • Piggott: finish review worksheet (optional) in anticipation for our quiz coming up NEXT ROTATION (2nd)...study how to multiply matrices and how to find the discriminant, especially for following the two methods (criss-cross and expansion) used for finding those of 3-tier matrices (as complex as it will get so far)
    • Rivas: get ready to present and defend your bill as accompanied by a detailed powerpoint...your pro and con speeches (one and three minute) are due the day you and the groups you are critiquing present!
      • Holt: keep up to date with the material with textbook reading (pages 10-27 so far) as we delve into new material; our video lessons shall be due next week FIRST ROTATION - MAKE THEM SNAPPY!
        • Senior Project: I do not know yet whether there will be a research check this week...last time, one was assigned Tuesday so wait till then until a deep breath can be taken...

        SCHEDULE OF EVENTS (first rotation)

        - Ortega: To sound the beginning of the week, Ortega granted us SSR time and had us (her house) write down our senior project essential questions (thus far concocted), which we then pinned onto our project posters hung around the classroom (please feel free to marvel in their awesomeness - sorry I am biased).  We were then introduced to the book "They Say, I Say" (and their velvety, moss-like covers), which Ortega notes can be very useful when learning to write and speak effectively in college and beyond (so get it for your graduation galas).  We then splintered off into pairs (with a person not of our MA groups) and worked with these reading pages 1-29 and completing exercises for both chapters (the intro and the official chapter one).  Be at the ready and sharp with your reading skills cause Ortega mentioned we will be hyper-reading the book (reading it very quickly).

        - Piggott: We reviewed our weekend homework on deciphering discriminants and then sacrificed one to two people to our 'hot seat' roast/therapy session (depending on the extent of your hidden self).
          - Rivas: We watched two bill group presentations after which we read our pros and cons speeches, after which we debated the potential of each bill on the table (on the 'floor' technically).

          - Holt: We worked on yet another lab involving 3 problems making use of our knowledge in the topics of acceleration and velocity.  We then, as a sort of finale to the class, built a ramp and calculated the speed of a tennis ball rolling down the said ramp.

          - Senior Project: no research checks die this Friday (I tentatively say)
