February 18, 2016

- ALAN WATTS -

This week has been such a week of activism for and stewardship towards our Earth so far, with Pennies for Patients hosted by HOPE Club being wrapped up today and the Pusong Pinoy Book Drive, hosted jointly by HOPE Club, Diversity Club, and START Club, due to host its finale TOMORROW!

I will post the results tomorrow as well.

The rain has gone but hopefully not forever.  When it comes back, let be sure to treasure it and measure it in some sort of catchment system - we are in a drought and yet LA acts like a drain to the ocean still...

On an lighter note: no third rotation...making my job today easier ;)

Flashback:

HOMEWORK (second rotation)
  • Ortega: two essay pages done by next week first rotation (2 page minimum, 12pt font, double space)
  • Piggott: finish proof worksheet (with 5 problems) due next rotation
    • Rivas: there will be 2 source analyses (#7,8) due this Friday...collegiate debates debut March 2!
    • Holt: keep up to date with the material in your textbook readings as we enter a new lesson in the coming weeks...bring your rovers to class by the end of this week so that you may weigh them and conduct calculations with them - in preparation for eventually racing them against each other!
    • Senior Project: Research Check #17 tomorrow (work on another three sources); our THIRD INTERVIEW and its blog are due by 8 AM tomorrow...the blog asking us to analyze our secondary answers to our essential questions will be due the 25th of this month (more time dished out for this deadline)!

    SCHEDULE OF EVENTS (second rotation)

    - Ortega:  After talking a bit more on how to write a coherent thesis, we followed a normal routine for class time spent, with Ortega explaining the iSearch essay that we're going to write and our peers taking the first steps in writing it thereafter (breaking ground on yet another hefty component for senior project).  An optional SSR followed for the last 20 minutes of class.

    - Pigott: We went over the homework worksheet covering proofs even more so, and then reviewed once again for a bit.
      - Rivas: Rivas went over the changes in the schedule and blog due dates.  After that he went over 1040 EZ tax forms and how to fill them out.  He showed us examples of how to fill them out, using his own tax papers as references.  Lastly, he gave us free time to work on source analysis #7, #8 or debate group brainstorming.  As a finale to the class, he gives everyone the groups they are debating with for the college debates, as well as weather you are pro or con in answering the debate question (on whether the federal government should have a part in making college more affordable).

      - Holt: We were given a lecture-less block to work on a worksheet requiring us to analyze our rovers, and so apply what we have learned thus far in regards to motion to the motion exhibited by our aspiring machines (their use of force, etc.).

      Some ASB Announcements...
--> Keep checking your emails for updates (especially if you are a PowderpPuff player, coach, or cheerleader!
--> Bring books for the Pusong Pinoy Book Drive and support less fortunate children in the Philippines who entertain/educate themselves with the power of reading/literacy!
--> HOPE Club's continuation of its toy drive for the homeless (from December) will be taking place SOON (I shall keep you posted one way or another)...
--> Muffin Committee (and other goodie-selling) has been disbanded for the time being for violating a supposed health code outlined in school policy...the future of snacks sold will range from the more healthy eating options of corn nuts to baked chips!
